Cruises can be a wonderful way to vacation. They offer all-inclusive amenities with top-notch onboard entertainment and dining. Plus, you can visit multiple vacation destinations without the hassle of changing hotels and arranging for transfers. Make sure your next cruise gets off to a smooth start by taking care of these five things before you head out.

1. Check Immunizations
If your cruise will be taking you out of the country, make a point of visiting your doctor beforehand. Check what immunizations you might need to safely visit those places, and arrange to get them far enough in advance that they can reach effectiveness.
2. Get a Passport
You’ll need a passport to travel anywhere outside of the states. If you are planning to disembark at a foreign port be sure all of your paperwork is in order. Leave at least two months to get new documents if you need them.
3. Schedule Airport Transfers
Unless you are lucky enough to live near a cruise port, you’ll probably arrive at your departure city by plane. Book a Florida or Houston cruise shuttle ahead of time so you won’t have to worry about it once you arrive.
4. Check Your Cell Phone Plan
Many cell phone plans do not allow for international use. Call your carrier to ensure you can keep in touch with family and friends while you are away.
5. Notify Financial Institutions
Call your credit card companies and banks to let them know you will be traveling. A quick call can help you avoid having your accounts frozen if you use them in a port. Arrange to have some cash on hand for gratuities, snacks, or a quick meal at the airport. This can come in handy until you get your onboard charging system set up.
Finally, get a full night of sleep before you leave. You’ve taken care of the essentials and have a big day of travel ahead of you. Make sure you are rested so you can enjoy your vacation to its fullest.
